Porth yr Ogof debris accumulation at downstream entrances

One of our Members took the opportunity of low water conditions yesterday to explore the condition of the downstream entrances* at Porth yr Ogof. Not surprisingly, following the winter’s floods, there is a significant ‘new’ accumulation of timber obstructing the stream between collapsed entrances I and J (still negotiable with care on the far left) and a significant amount of timber, both submerged and floating, obstructing the channel leading to exit M (again, negotiable with care). At least some of this is undoubtedly the result of the clear-up we had in the entrance chamber last year; caused both by remnants having been flushed-through the cave and the fact there is no longer a ‘sieve’ at the entrance to catch debris entering during floods (an example of improvement in one area having unintended consequences in another!). Please take extra care if using this area and make your own risk assessments, as always…
