Access to Llangattock escarpment from Brynmawr direction – road closed

We’ve been advised that the Hafod road (running along the bottom of the escarpment) is closed for several months from the Brynmawr direction. The ‘best’ alternative route to reach the escarpment car park (especially for minibuses) is to take the road uphill from Dan y Parc (between Gilwern and Llangattock) past the Herons Rest Marina and Wern Watkin bunkhouse. The ‘official diversion’ from Gilwern uses Cheese Lane, which has a difficult hairpin bend at the top where it meets Hafod Road (multi-point turn with steep drop!); and the other alternative Hillside Road from Llangattock can be quite challenging on your clutch! If in doubt, check your route carefully, as it’s easy to end up on the wrong road…
