Further to our recent messages about clearing up after yourselves (Is there more we can do (to help us continue to earn a welcome) at Dinas Rock?) and respecting the sensitivities of the local community (Gorge-walking access is a privilege – please don’t abuse it!), we’ve recently received another complaint from Pontneddfechan residents that, on Saturday 13 Jun:
- a group of men were sent over from Dinas Rock to park outside a resident’s house They eventually moved into the car park of the village hall and proceeded to change in the car park; and
- the path coming down from the gunpowder works was still being used by groups who choose to ignore the landowners request for it not to used (although we are aware that one group specifically chose to use this route to evacuate an injured party member, which we consider to be a reasonable course of action).
The goodwill of the local residents is extremely important to us in retaining group access to this special place (persistent known ‘offenders’ will receive sanctions from NRW), so please could all users make continued efforts to:
- avoid parking and changing near residents’ houses and in the village hall car park (use the changing screens or hire the village hall);
- use only the ‘hilltop’ route to access Loonies’ Leap – except in genuine emergency (NB we’re aware that the forthcoming path closure will make this even more inconvenient, but NRW has made arrangements to allow access for gorge groups despite its public closure – see Attention all Dinas/Sychryd users: access restrictions on hill-top route during July/August); and
- be prepared to remind other providers about the importance of ‘sticking to the rules’ and respecting local sensitivities (or pass on details of infringements to us so we can follow-up ‘anonymously’; e.g. we’d still be interested in knowing who was in the area on Sat 13th…).
Thanks!
