Natural Resources Wales has advised us that they will be operating fish traps on the Upper Usk (at Abercamlais on the Sennybridge-Aberbran section) during the period March-May 2023. Although we anticipate few paddlers using the river during this period, anyone contemplating a trip on this section needs to be aware of this hazard: the trap will have cables extending across the entire river and therefore poses a significant danger to paddlers, who will need to portage around the device (which will be manned while in operation). Warning notices will be posted and we have been advised that there are suitable portage points above and below the trap. The picture shows a similar trap in operation on the Dee.
