As expected after a winter with several flooding events, there have been some significant changes to the flow of the river Wye between Glasbury and Hay – which is now potentially less hazardous than before! Most notably:
- The route through the ‘S-bend’ rapid shortly after Glasbury bridge has changed substantially: the main flow is now central, with a shallower channel on the right. The previous route on river-left has silted-up; the smaller channel that joins here from just below the bridge has enlarged; and the recirculating eddy in the corner has disappeared – see photos below;
- there is less (but still some) debris in the middle of the river just below the far end of the oxbow lake; and
- the surf-wave at the chicken farm has now disappeared 🙁
