Notice of 3 day closure of Cwm Porth car park AND ‘main’ Porth yr Ogof Entrances 25-27 Jan 2022

We have been advised by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority that…

***During the 3 day period 25th, 26th & 27th January 2022, Cwm Porth car park will be closed to both the general public and to all activity provider groups and we will be unable to grant permission to access or egress the Porth yr Ogof cave system via either the Main or Tradesman’s entrances***

The full message is included below:

“In the interests of public safety we have prescribed that a whole series of Arboricultural [aka tree surgery!] work needs to be carried out on the diseased tree stock in and around the Cwm Porth car park.

“We have put a schedule of works together to best address these safety issues, this has gone out for tender and we have a nominated Arboricultural service provider to carry out the works on our behalf.

“The nature of these proposed Arboricultural operations and their proximity in relation to cave access points, car parking areas, changing areas, public conveniences and service points dictates that we will require the closure of the car park to both the general public and to all activity provider groups during the course of the delivery of the work.

“These essential Arboricultural operations are scheduled to occur over a 3 day period and we have just today received confirmation from our nominated service provider that they have scheduled to commence the works next week on Tuesday the 25th and to be finished by the close of play on Thursday 27th January 2022.

“During this 3 day period; 25th, 26th & 27th January 2022, Cwm Porth car park will be closed to both the general public and to all activity provider groups and we will be unable to grant permission to access or egress the Porth yr Orgof cave system via either the Main or Tradesman’s entrances.

“Gwaun Hepste car park will still be open to all and we will be redirecting visitors to use this as an alternative to Cwm Porth car park during the closure period.

“Could you also please pass on our apologies to the provider groups and their clients for any inconvenience caused as a result of the temporary closure.”
