Although we have already said we don’t want to inundate SWOAPG Members’ inboxes with yet more messages on the subject, we thought it was important to let you know the action that WATO (Wales Adventure Tourism Organisation – of which SWOAPG is one of the three Core Members) is taking to support your interests – as set out in the statement below:
WATO Position Statement
“Given the current situation regarding Covid-19 and the effects it is having on the adventure tourism industry, we thought we would let you know what WATO is doing, following a meeting of its Core and Observer members on 19 March:
“We have been in contact with Welsh Government Officers and have identified that the support currently on offer from Business Wales is not accessible to the majority of our industry due to its very nature – SMEs, micro-businesses and self-employed freelancers.
“We have now sent a letter to the Ministers for Sport, Tourism & Culture; and Economy & Transport, highlighting the industry’s predicament and offering possible solutions to assist us all in these very difficult and challenging times.
“As soon as we hear anything from Welsh Government, we will provide you with an update. In the meantime, I hope you are able to stay positive and demonstrate the resilience of us all within this industry.”
Paul Donovan (WATO Chair) on behalf of the Wales Adventure Tourism Organisation
