Sychryd gorge complaints – all users please take note

We have recently received several reports of groups behaving in ways that aren’t consistent with the high standards we expect from users of the Waterfall Area gorges concordat. Please ensure all your gorge leaders are aware of the following points:

  • Groups have been seen using (and encouraging group members to use) the river-left bank of the Sychryd without the landowner’s permission: please stay in the right-hand half of the river and on the right bank (upstream of the road bridge) unless you have specific permission from the landowner to use the ‘far’ bank.
  • Groups have been seen making members of the public stand aside while participants jump off the waterfall: please be respectful and considerate of ‘the public’ – they have as much right to be there as we do!
  • Groups have been booking the village hall to change but then not using it: please remember to cancel any unwanted bookings so that the facility can be offered to others.
  • Some groups are using the village hall facility and leaving waste and mess which the committee is having to pay to get cleared: please clean-up after yourselves so we can continue to earn a welcome in the hall.
  • Groups have also been seen using the paths from Loonies’ Leap to the village hall, both river left and river right: these paths are still out-of-bounds to gorge groups and the only way to return from Loonies’ to the car park at present is over the hill-top.

Thanks!
