Reservoir users’ workshop – advance notice

In response to a suggestion from one of our members, we’ve been working with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) on a CPD workshop for reservoir users. The aim, as with our other ‘learn about…’ workshops, will be to enable instructors who use these special places to both appreciate them better and be able to educate their clients about them; but will also serve to build a stronger relationship with DCWW and help us secure continued access to reservoirs for paddlesport. We’re aiming for a ‘pilot’ workshop in February 2025, which if successful could become a regular fixture and perhaps even a requirement for users of the Bannau Brycheiniog Reservoir Passport Scheme. We expect the workshop to take the form of a ‘short day’ (10am-2pm), based most likely at Pontsticill and including a presentation, a reservoir visit and a tour of the water treatment works. Each workshop would be restricted to a maximum 12 participants.

Although we appreciate that February is still a long way away, it would be really helpful to get an idea of who would be interested in attending this workshop so we can look for a date that works for as many as possible: please send ‘expressions of interest’ to coordinator@swoapg.com.

PS we hope to run a few other ‘learn about…’ workshops over the winter months, so please let us know if there are any particular venues that you’d be interested in. For example, we’ve in recent years visited the Upper Mellte gorge; Sychryd gorge / gunpowder works; Wye Glasbury-Hay (!); Blaen y Glyn gorge; Craig Cerrig Gleisiad / Fan Frynich; Nedd Valley caves; Porth yr Ogof; and Clydach gorge and could look to repeat any of these and/or add ‘new’ venues if there was enough demand…
