Hazard to paddlers on Upper Usk and Yscir: fish traps in operation during April & May

Natural Resources Wales has advised us that they will be operating fish traps on the Upper Usk (at Abercamlais on the Sennybridge-Aberbran section) and on the Yscir during the period April-May 2021. Although we anticipate few paddlers using the rivers during this period, anyone contemplating a trip on either river section needs to be aware of this hazard: the traps will have cables extending across the entire river and therefore pose a significant danger to paddlers, who will need to portage around the devices (which will be manned while in operation). Warning notices will be posted and we have been advised that there are suitable portage points above and below the traps. The picture shows a similar trap in operation on the Dee. Full details are in the attached document.
