We’ve received a report of a member of the public aggressively and abusively confronting a group of paddlers at Brecon Promenade this week, demanding to know what they were doing on the river. It seems he may have been particularly incensed by a group that had been lunching river-right at the foot of the ‘rapids’ upstream of the rope swing. Shortly after he left (in a blue Subaru Forester), a yellow transit van was seen touring the car park taking a close look at boats left on trailers – although we have no reason to believe these two incidents were related.
Please be aware that, if you are using Brecon Promenade with groups (especially if you operate upstream of the rope-swing), you might attract similar attention and may therefore wish to (a) be prepared to deal calmly with (and perhaps have a means to hand of recording) any abusive behaviour directed towards you; and (b) take care if leaving unsecured / unattended equipment in the car park.
Please let us know if you experience any similar incidents so we can monitor whether this is a ‘one-off’ or a growing trend.
