Usk Reservoir access update for reservoir passport holders

If any of you have used Usk reservoir recently you will know that the access to the slipway at the northern end of the dam is currently closed (and will remain so for the foreseeable future) while major dam construction work is underway. As we’ve reported previously, the ‘southern’ access point is now available, via the lane at SN827282 (and a locked gate, for which we can provide the access code) BUT this lane has become overgrown and may currently be inaccessible to larger vehicles. Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has  agreed to cut back this overgrowth at the earliest opportunity, but has also agreed that:

Reservoir Passport holders may also now, for the duration of the dam construction works, launch craft from the public car park at the southern end of the dam at SN833286 when the water is sufficiently below the overflow level (i.e. when there is no risk of craft entering the spillway) subject to, as with other areas, being mindful of anglers that use this area.

We are grateful to DCWW for this additional permission.

NB we are also aware that at some point during the construction works the water level in the reservoir will be lowered significantly (such that launching will be impractical) and we’ve asked DCWW to give us advance warning of this if possible.
