SWOAPG – what have they ever done for us?

The Coordinator and Steering group spend a lot of time and effort making good things happen for our sector in South Wales, and we sometimes forget to shout about our successes.

Here is an idea of the things we have been up to in the last 12 months:

Alerts:
Keeping you up to date with safety alerts, venue closures and important news about the sites we use.

Concordat:
Manage the agreement with Natural Resources Wales for use of the Gorges in the Waterfalls area, including running 2 free Code of Conduct Workshops.

Passport Scheme:
Manage the Passport Scheme, administered by BBNPA for access to the Welsh Water Reservoirs in the National Park

Access:
Representing providers in access discussions on the River Wye and at development proposals at Dinas.

Workshops:
We’ve organised subsidised workshops on Coasteering, Story Telling, History and Geology.

Resources:
We’ve created and printed a series of useful resources on caving and rivers that have been available at meetings, workshops and events. Some have now run out so a reprint is planned.

AALS Consultation:
Meeting with HSE to discuss the consultation and its process as well ensuring all providers have the opportunity to have their say.

National Trust Licencing:
Shaping the outcome of the licencing “Pilot” to be positive for both the National Trust and Providers.

Represent Members:

Giving a voice to the outdoor sector in South Wales to Welsh Government and Visit Wales (especially during the Year of Adventure), Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, Local Councils and Regional Tourism Forums.

Access Review:
Ensuring that providers could input to the consultation, and that there would be an outcome. We will be monitoring this as it progresses and keeping you informed

Marketing Opportunities:
For Level 3 members you have been sent a wide variety of opportunities to market your organisation, or engage with business opportunities and networking events.

External Training Opportunities:
For Level 2 and 3 members you have been sent a wide variety of training opportunities for your organisation, as well as the opportunities promoted on the SWOAPG courses calendar.

Wales Outdoor Alliance:
We ran a consultation to help shape the outcome of the NRW funded project looking to establish a single voice for the Outdoor Sector in Wales. The final report on this will be shared when it is published.

As well as:
A place to have your questions asked and a voice for the outdoor sector…
