Do you use the Mon & Brec Canal? Please complete this survey!

Brecon Beacons Tourism would welcome all canal users completing this online survey to gather evidence for submission to Welsh Government etc: Preserve and Protect the Mon & Brec Canal Survey October 2025.

Background: Since March 2025, uncertainty about the future water supply for the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal has dominated headlines. Restrictions on abstraction and the lack of a clear long-term solution have caused negative publicity, affecting confidence for businesses, boaters, activity providers, and visitors. This survey is to gather evidence on the impact of those water-related issues only — this is not about weather or wider UK tourism trends. Your responses will help show decision-makers the urgency of securing a water solution for 2026. We want to hear from:

  • Businesses (direct and indirect)
  • Liveaboard and private boaters
  • Residents, volunteers and community groups
  • Activity providers and users (canoeing, paddle sports, training, and other recreational uses of the canal)

Some questions will feel relevant and some will not, please feel free to choose which you answer, none are “required” to move through the form.
The findings will be shared directly with Welsh Government, Canal & River Trust, Dŵr Cymru, and Natural Resources Wales to press for urgent action.
Responses are anonymous unless you choose to provide your details. Please focus your answers specifically on the water-supply and publicity issues surrounding the canal. There are open-text questions if you wish to raise other tourism or wider concerns. This survey is curated by Brecon Beacons Tourism on behalf of Preserve and Protect Mon & Brec Canal Group.
