Another rockfall warning – Llangattock escarpment / Eglyws Faen approach

Thanks to Alan Bowring of BBNPA for the following message: stay watchful out there, folks:

“Reading about the various rockfalls [notified by SWOAPG], I wanted to mention that walking beneath the big 1930s quarry wall collapse en route to Eglwys Faen from Llangattock hillside car park a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that a few more blocks had come down from near the top of the cliff since we had recced it three weeks previously – the largest was perhaps several tonnes. None had made it as far as the path, but there’s more material up there to come down yet. I’d often say to folks ‘wait until next winter for freeze-thaw cycles to do their worst’ but I suspect that the more pronounced drying/wetting cycles that we now get may also be playing their part.”
