This course by South Wales Outdoor Activity Providers Group (SWOAPG) will introduce you to, or refresh you about, the Codes of Conduct for Gorge-Walking in Waterfall Country.

It will explain:

• SWOAPG’s role in promoting sustainable behaviour by gorge-walking groups;
• why the natural environment of the gorges is so sensitive and why gorge-walking groups need to ‘earn a welcome’ by landowners and the local community;
• a summary of the rules and advice that gorge-walking groups should follow – and what will happen if they don’t;
• how to obtain further information; and
• how to sign-up as a SWOAPG Member (to gain access to the gorges under the terms of the Concordat) or Subscriber (to receive e-mail alerts for ‘critical’ (e.g. safety-related) issues relating to activity provision within the Brecon Beacons and South Wales).

Once you have completed this course, you must also complete one or both of the following courses to allow you to access the gorge(s) under the terms of the SWOAPG Waterfall Country Activity Access Concordat:

• (2021) Using the Sychryd & Lower Mellte Gorges and (2023) Update to the Code of Conduct for Gorge-Walking in the Sychryd and Lower Mellte Gorges
• (2021) Using the Upper Mellte Gorge and (2023) Update to the Code of Conduct for Gorge-Walking in the Upper Mellte Gorge
