DESCRIPTION:This RLSS National Water Safety Management Programme (NWSMP) Award is predominantly aimed at those working in\, or close to\, water in outdoor environments and is particularly suitable for Outdoor Instructors and Assistants. \nThere are three levels to the award: \nLevel 1 – Water Safety Awareness \nLevel 2 – Beach\, River\, Still Water \nLevel 3 – In Water Rescue \nThe programme starts with Level 1\, the Water Safety Awareness Module\, which provides the theoretical platform for more advanced modules. Environment Specific Modules cover hazards associated with beach\, river and still water as well as basic rescue techniques. DESCRIPTION:***Date changed from 23 Sep***\n\nAll my courses will be run in accordance with Covid-19 regulations and guidance.\n\nThe FSRT course is intended for all paddlers\, coaches and volunteers irrespective of craft or discipline choice\, and is available in either bank-based or boat-based option (or a combined course covering both). It provides training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment in any craft. Candidates should be competent paddling in both kayak and canoe to enable them to complete the course\, although it is not necessary formally to hold a Personal Performance Award.\n\nThe FSRT course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award.\n\nThe FSRT course comprises a minimum of 8-hours training and is usually conducted over one long day; this course will take place in Brecon.\n\nWhile there remain restrictions on indoor gatherings\, most courses will include video-conference sessions to cover ‘classroom’ topics. These will usually be a few days before and/or after the main ‘practical’ (outdoor) sessions\, arranged to suit participants on each course. The dates shown below are for the ‘practical’ sessions only.\n\nNo minimum age (although paddlers must be physically able to undertake the course!).\n\n\n£75 each. DESCRIPTION:This is a Code of Conduct Training session – delivered online via Zoom – for Providers who are signed-up to the NRW Waterfalls Country Concordat. It is a requirement that a representative from each Provider has attended a Code of Conduct Training session if they wish to use of the area for Gorge Walking. \nThis session is suitable for both new Providers that are starting to use the gorge\, as well as established Providers who would like a refresher or to bring new staff up to speed. \n\nAttendees must be either Full Individual Members or staff (including regular freelancers) from Full Corporate Members or Supporters or their staff. The course will help you plan and deliver safe\, enjoyable\, progressive coaching sessions and you’ll explore specifics to help you coach some typical learners relevant to these craft in this environment. \nYou need to meet the following prerequisites before attending the course: \n\nFull ‘on the water’ membership of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\nCompleted Core Coach Training (or the following ‘old’ British Canoeing courses\, if you feel confident with their content: Level 2 (UKCC) Training OR Assessment; Moderate or Advanced Water Training OR Assessment; Level 3 (UKCC) Core Training OR Assessment;\nA good level of knowledge of both canoeing and kayaking on sheltered water; and well-practised personal skills.\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 4 candidates. \nVenue to be confirmed (somewhere in the Brecon area). \nThe course fee will be no more than £180\, which includes coaching\, equipment and certification. DESCRIPTION:Now that Providers have re-commenced using the gorges in Waterfall Country\, SWOAPG wishes to take the opportunity to review and share experiences and ‘good practice’ around the precautions that Providers are taking to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in gorge-walking and canyoning activities. \nThis 2-hour\, interactive Zoom workshop will enable Providers to share: \n\nthe latest updates on gorge access;\nour understanding of the key requirements for preventing transmission – including Welsh Government regulations; the “We’re Good to Go” scheme; and WATO guidelines for Safe Delivery of Gorge Walking and Canyoning post COVID -19;\nspecific concerns about what these mean in the gorge environment; and\nsuggestions for ‘good practice’ in managing clients and equipment; using the car parks\, toilets and changing areas; and maintaining social distancing in the gorges.\n\nWe will probably focus first on the Sychryd gorge\, since this is used more frequently by most Providers\, but will also consider the Upper Mellte if we have time. \nPlease RSVP (using the button on the website event listing; or by e-mail) to register your interest (Members who have registered their interest will receive the Zoom link in due course – please contact us if you have not received this before the event).

DESCRIPTION:This is the third in a series of webinars taking the place of our usual workshop programme – watch this space for more events coming soon. \nJoin the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority to step back in time to when the works at Pontneddfechan were at their height of their production of gunpowder for the mining industry. Crammed into the steep gorge of the Afon Mellte\, the remains of these works can still be found. The gorge was ideal for making this highly explosive product having a plentiful water supply for power and being isolated enough to safeguard the local community if anything did go wrong. \nThis will be a virtual guided walk to some of those buildings that have recently been conserved. They are now considered of such historical significance that they have been classed as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
