SUMMARY:Wed 16 Feb 2022 Waterfall Country Gorges: a Practical Workshop to consider how Activity Providers can help care for these special places
DESCRIPTION:Those of you using the Waterfall Country gorges in the last year or so will be well aware of the immense pressure that the area is under from visitors – which is having a significant adverse impact on the gorge environment. We know that gorge-walking groups are not a significant part of the problem – in fact we think there’s a lot we can do to help! \n\n\n\nSWOAPG has therefore planned this onsite workshop\, based around the Mellte gorge\, to see what we can do to help alleviate some of the problems being caused by visitor numbers and behaviour. \n\n\n\nThe idea of the workshop (which will be facilitated on behalf of SWOAPG by Lee Garbett of Quest Adventures – and hopefully attended by all the major gorge-walking providers as well as environmental and safety organisations) is to share concerns and ideas and generate some key messages and good practice for groups using the gorge\, which SWOAPG will then disseminate more widely. Topics to be addressed will include how providers might… \n\n\n\nbetter understand and continue to minimise their own impact on the fragile gorge environment;help keep the area in good condition e.g. by collecting and disposing of rubbish; andinfluence the behaviour of the general public to better look after the gorge environment (and their own safety!).\n\n\n\nThe intention is to cover the section of river between Sgwd Clun Gwyn and Sgwd y Pannwr. To participate fully you’ll need ‘wet’ gorge kit – or if you prefer you can stay dry and join in parts only with walking kit (contact Lee if you need to borrow kit). \n\n\n\nMeet 8.30am at Clyn Gwyn Car Park for a briefing before moving onsite at 9am. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP using the button below if you’re able to attend. \n\n\n\nContact Lee for more detailed information or questions about the workshop.

DESCRIPTION:This 2-day Discipline Specific Training course you will focus on how to coach technical and tactical skills in Open Canoes on Moderate White Water. The course will help you plan and deliver safe\, enjoyable\, progressive coaching sessions and you’ll explore specifics to help you coach some typical learners relevant to these craft in this environment. \n\n\n\nWhile there remain restrictions on indoor gatherings\, courses may include video-conference sessions to cover ‘classroom’ topics. These will usually be a few days before and/or after the main ‘practical’ (outdoor) sessions\, arranged to suit participants on each course. The dates shown below are for the ‘practical’ sessions only. \n\n\n\nYou need to meet the following prerequisites before attending the course: \n\n\n\nFull ‘on the water’ membership of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);Hold White Water Canoe Leader (or former Canoe Leader / 4* Canoe leadership Award); andCompleted Core Coach Training (or the following ‘old’ British Canoeing courses\, if you feel confident with their content: Level 2 (UKCC) Training OR Assessment; Moderate or Advanced Water Training OR Assessment; Level 3 (UKCC) Core Training OR Assessment.\n\n\n\nMinimum 2\, maximum 4 candidates. \n\n\n\nVenue to be confirmed (somewhere in the Brecon area). \n\n\n\nThe course fee will be no more than £180\, which includes coaching\, equipment and certification. DESCRIPTION:At our outdoor activity centre in Abercrave  and will make use of the outdoor environment. \n\n\n\nThe awarding body for the qualification is Nuco and meets the minimum requirements for NGB qualifications and employment with outdoor activity centres. \n\n\n\nThe cost of the course will be £120.00 plus vat per person \n\n\n\nThe centre will be in operation under the current Covid guidance from the Welsh Government which may differ from England.

DESCRIPTION:All my courses will be run in accordance with Covid-19 regulations and guidance. \n\n\n\nThe White Water Award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out white water paddling in a kayak or OC1. It endorses your skill\, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. This is a great preparation for the British Canoeing Sheltered Water Kayak Coach Award! \n\n\n\nThis 2-day course is intended to provide training tailored to the individual needs of participants and\, for those who meet the require standard\, an opportunity for assessment for this Award. You should already be an experienced and confident flat-water paddler before attending the course\, ideally with some moving or white-water experience. \n\n\n\nWhile there remain restrictions on indoor gatherings\, courses may include video-conference sessions to cover ‘classroom’ topics. These will usually be a few days before and/or after the main ‘practical’ (outdoor) sessions\, arranged to suit participants on each course. The dates shown below are for the ‘practical’ sessions only. \n\n\n\nVenue to be confirmed (somewhere in the Brecon area). \n\n\n\nCost £120 per person (non-residential).
