DESCRIPTION:Come and join Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s Geopark Development Officer\, Alan Bowring\, for an exploration of the geology and history of Craig Cerrig Gleisiad (CCG) and Fan Frynich. We’ll aim to take a ‘figure 8’ walking tour up to the summit of Fan Frynich and down to Pont Blaen Cwm Du\, returning up the streamway and over the bwlch between CCG and Fan Frynich [subject to weather conditions\, of course]. Participants will need suitable fitness\, clothing and equipment for a day’s mountain walk in the prevailing weather\, including packed lunch / snacks. Book ‘tickets’ or RSVP using the buttons below\, or e-mail coordinator@swoapg.com. \n\n\n\nThis is the third of a series of practical\, outdoor workshops providing opportunities for instructors and providers to learn about some of the areas we work in\, both for their own education and to enable them to help their clients to better appreciate these special places. If there is too much water in the Nedd Fechan\, we’ll either postpone or replace with an alternative activity. \n\n\n\nCome and join Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s Geopark Development Officer Alan Bowring and Cave Instructor Juliet Parker-Smith\, for a geological exploration of the ‘upper’ Nedd Fechan gorge and its caves. We’ll explore Bridge Cave then take a walk along the river and dry valley via Pwll y Rhyd to White Lady Cave and Town Drain. Participants will need suitable clothing and equipment for a day’s caving (wellies\, over-suit\, knee pads\, belt\, helmet & lamp)\, plus packed lunch / snacks. SUMMARY:10 Feb 2023 SMART: Sustainable Marine AdventuRe Tourism: Sustainable\, Safe and Local?
DESCRIPTION:Swansea University\, Bay Campus 11am- 5pm \n\n\n\nOceans are of great importance in ecological (climate regulation\, biodiversity) and societal (economic activities\, environmental services\, and residence) terms. In line with recent interest in ‘Blue Growth’\, healthy oceans are fundamental to achieving global sustainability\, and are thus identified as one of the core SDGs in goal 14 ‘Life below Water’. However\, there are significant challenges in everyday understanding of the influence of the oceans on our lives and the impacts of our behaviour on it. Marine adventure tourism has a key role to play here given our dependence on the health of the ocean for a wide range of recreational and ecosystem services. \n\n\n\nThis one day think-tank will address issues surrounding sustainable growth in the marine adventure tourism realm.  In presentations from leading businesses\, agencies and researchers we will examine existing challenges faced by the sector and scope for future economic opportunity and collaboration. Government delegates will provide a policy background and we will invite European funding experts to identify future opportunities.  After lunch we hope to maximise the university’s location on Swansea Bay\, engaging directly with contemporary issues in our marine environment. The afternoon will explore funding and collaboration opportunities for marine adventure tourism. \n\n\n\nConfirmed speakers include: \n\n\n\n\nDr Olga Garcia\, Interpretation Spanish Regional Government.\n\n\n\nDr Steve Taylor. DESCRIPTION:NB There will also be a Zoom session on Tue 7 Feb\, 7-9pm which all participants must attend. \n\n\n\nThe British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification is for people aged 14+ whose main focus of work is delivering paddlesport taster/starter sessions within clubs\, centres or other organisations. The qualification is not discipline specific and is suitable for instructors who work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe process of completing the qualification aims to help prepare candidates for their first paddlesport instructing role; ‘primed and ready’. \n\n\n\nVenue: Brecon \n\n\n\nCost £180 per person (non-residential). \n\n\n\nCandidates need to: \n\n\n\n\nbe aged 14 or over;\n\n\n\nbe members of Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.);\n\n\n\nregister for the Award with Canoe Wales / British Canoeing (etc.) – cost £45;\n\n\n\nhave attended a British Canoeing Awarding Body Paddlesport Safety & Rescue or Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course; and\n\n\n\nhave personal paddling (equivalent to the former 2*-level) and rescue competence in one type of craft (kayak\, open canoe\, sit on top\, or stand up paddleboard).

DESCRIPTION:Come and join Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s Geopark Development Officer\, Alan Bowring\, for an exploration of the geology and history of Blaen y Glyn gorge and its surrounding mountain area. We’ll take a circular walking tour up the Caerfanell gorge and up on to Waun Rydd (and its Wellington bomber memorial) and the summit of Craig y Fan Ddu before returning down Nant Bwrefwr to the car park [subject to weather conditions\, of course]. Participants will need suitable clothing and equipment for a mountain walk in the prevailing weather\, including packed lunch / snacks. Book ‘tickets’ or RSVP using the buttons below\, or e-mail coordinator@swoapg.com. \n\n\n\nThis is the first of a series of practical\, outdoor workshops providing opportunities for instructors and providers to learn about some of the areas we work in\, both for their own education and to enable them to help their clients to better appreciate these special places.
