DESCRIPTION:Suitable for aspirant mountain leaders/instructors + those looking for a skills boost \nHaving the ability to “see” the landscape by relating the contour patterns to the shape of the ground (and vice versa) is an essential part of successful navigation in mountain and moorland environments. On this hill based one-day course\, I explain the concept of vertical scale\, and show you a range of simple techniques that enable you to visualise the shape of the ground from the map\, and to gauge where the contours run on the ground when looking at the landscape. Designed specifically for outdoor learning providers by Joe Roberts (Natural Resources Wales)\, Lun Roberts (ER Outdoors) and Jim Langley (Nature’s Work) in response to an Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) initiative\, an opportunity to try out games\, quizzes and other activities designed to help foster our clients’ connection to the environment\, to discuss these new ideas with fellow practitioners and to develop our own. Connection can take place on many levels (intellectually\, practically\, emotionally\, spiritually\, through our senses and through our creativity) and the activities on offer reflect this diversity. DESCRIPTION:The ‘Fostering a Connection’ course was designed by Lun Roberts (ER Outdoors)\, Jim Langley (Nature’s Work) and Joe Roberts (Natural Resources Wales) to meet the needs of outdoor providers wishing to engage their clients with the environment and to foster their connection to it.  The full course takes a day\, costs £50 (£30 concessions) and includes a manual.  This taster is free and gives you an insight into the philosophy behind the course and a chance to try out some of the activities in the manual including quizzes\, games\, phone app testing\, folk tales\, bush craft and much more.  Connection takes place on many levels (intellectually\, practically\, emotionally\, spiritually\, through our senses\, through our creativity\, etc.) and the activities on offer reflect this diversity.  We are not trying to teach field studies or asking people to become walking encyclopaedias of flora and fauna.
