Adventures in nature for people with sight impairment

The following message about an event in Bristol on 19 Sep may be of interest to any providers working with clients who have sight impairment:

Hello there

I am just writing in case the following event is of interest to your members: https://sensing-nature.com/news/adventure-nature

The afternoon event will be held in Bristol on Wednesday 19th September 2018, and will focus on work in the UK and beyond to encourage participation in activities like kayaking, sailing, caving and climbing amongst people living with varying forms and severities of sight impairment.

With contributions from the Spirit of Adventure programme (run by the Bendrigg Trust), the Calvert Trust Exmoor, Blind Veterans and the Milton Mountaineers, discussions through the afternoon will highlight:

a)    The health and wellbeing benefits of being able to get involved in these activities;

b)    Varied approaches to opening up opportunities to engage in these activities;

c)     The importance of assistance that is appropriate to people’s individual parameters and skills.

The event is aimed at anyone with an interest in this area, including outdoor activity providers, people with sight impairment, people working in the eye health or sight loss sectors, researchers, and those in the policy sector with a remit to open up such experiences to all.

People can sign up via Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/adventures-in-nature-with-sight-impairment-tickets-47901001184) or by emailing me directly. It is free to attend but places are unfortunately limited.

All the best and many thanks

Sarah
